You don't really need a NAC solution. With the Symantec System Center you
can run a discovery as well to find unmanaged clients. This is free with
Symantec Corporate Edition. From the System Center just select Tools -->
Find Computers and then choose the Audit Network tab. On that screen select
Options and check the "Look for unmanaged clients, offline servers and
offline clients" check box. Put in your IP range and scan away. Of course
you will need admin rights on the clients to perform this, but it works
pretty well.

Hello,

I can only respond to question b.
You can detect them using a Network Access Control solution. Symantec sells
a solution of this kind.

Hope it helps,

Jonatan

Objet : Symantec AV Strategy

Hi all,

I am updating/defining our global Symantec AV strategy and I need inputs
from those who have done that before.

My areas of focus will be:

1. Define deployment, configuration and upgrade (including defs update)
process.
2. Define Virus outbreak handling and response process.
3. Define process for identifying unmanaged AV clients.

Questions:
a. how do you do it on your shop?
b; how do you detect clients that not running AV software?

Thanks for your inputs.
Serge
