Given that the SSN was not designed to be a secure piece of
information for use in authentication scheme, this isn't at all
surpising.

Neither is it surprising that it has been misapplied as part of
authentication schemes, but that's a whole different conversation.

Its sole designed role, in all that I've read, is as a unique
identifier, never as a secret.
