They're pretty basic and inexpensive, which makes them good choices to
start with if you've no other certifications yet. A+ was the first cert I
ever got....

I took a college course designed to prepare students for the Security+
certification as ONE of my ways to prepare for the CISSP exam. It wouldn't
have been sufficient on its own, but it was a convenient and inexpensive way
to review the field while focusing other time and resources on specific
areas where I had or wanted much more depth.

I basically want to know if they are as worldwide recognised as they say
they are, and will a Security+ qualification look good to a potential
employer. Or will they never had heard of it?
