the Security+ isn't held as highly as some others. However, with CompTIA
redoing their security+ test either last year or this (can't remember
exactly when) it will be interesting to see if it gains a little more
ground. A+ used to be considered nothing as people could have certified
with legacy technology, but since moving to CE status is quickly gaining
ground as a decent entry level certification since it means you have
current knowledge.

Why not get a formal education too? Not just a certification.. Anyway go
