Your best bet for understanding the script, is to open the http-open-proxy.nse script in a text editor of your choice and look at the code behind it. You will see the methods it uses and what responses you should be looking for in case of a negative or positive results.

For instance, it looks for specific ports and headers so that it can determine the type of proxy that is being detected and will present a specific result based on that finding.

I just read an article over at SANS,

It uses the
nmap --script http-open-proxy.nse 192.168.0.0/24 script to check for free proxies.

Looking at the result of the scan, I am having a bit of trouble figuring out how its shows free proxies.
I just see a bunch of open ports. What am I missing?
