Actually, XDAS has been around since 1998 as a preliminary spec. It's sponsored by the OpenGroup, they're doing a new round of updates, and I know they are looking for as much community involvement as possible to serve on the standards committee. If anyone's interested in helping out, contact me out of band and I will find out the best way to get involved.
Also BTW, Novell has developed a full open-source API for XDAS called OpenXDAS:
