All versions of UNIX and most versions of Linux are supported by the vendor.
(In fact my experience with UNIX/Linux has been better than with Windows or
large machine proprietary OS.)
The limitations are no different from any other OS or platform - you need to
have experienced (experienced in Linux not just "IT") staff, clear
requirements and policies and so forth.
The people to avoid are the fanatics, those with religious fervour. It
sounds like you've been speaking to people who are fanatically AGAINST
Linux. I can't see any other way to account for such way-out nonsense!
