Hi Robin,
You know very well these are just estimate numbers. Find below some
signal loss numbers for obstacles I've collected from different
sources along time. First column is the type of object. Second column
is the loss (in dB's):

Connector: 2-3
Glass window (car, office¡): 3
Glass Window (metallic tint): 5-8
Wall (drywall): 5-8
Wall (wood): ¡Ö10
Wall/Floor/Ceiling (concrete): 15-20 (¡Ö15cm)
Wall/Floor/Ceiling (concrete): 20-25 (¡Ö30cm)

You also have a reference table in the Wi-Foo book:
http://safari.oreilly.com/0321202171/app05

Another reference table is available here (page 4 of 5):
http://www.avalanwireless.com/assets_v3/design_docs/AvaLAN_IndoorPathLos
s.pdf

If someone has other references, I'd love to get and contrast them.

I hope these are useful to you!
Cheers,
