I also appreciate Bruce's approach to an open society and hell, yeah, I
do believe that he's able to properly secure his private network. But
the point is that imho he could get prosecuted for the things someone
else does with his network, if he can't prove that he properly secured
his WLAN. At least as to be complicit. And sure properly secured doesn't
mean WEP.
I think, Bruce can calculate the risks he's facing in his world, and
offering free services to anyone is surely a kind of social behavior. I
mean in the way that we don't want to pay for services that could be
dirt-cheap for all. But I still live in a world where bad people do bad
things, so my approach to share my resources is:
To protect my network as best as I can.
To choose the people I want to share it with and provide access to only
them.
To not log what what the people I trust do with my web.
