I was just reading an article cheering on more wireless peripherals,
and hoping for the not-to-distant future where wired anything would
be a thing of the past.

I'm often advising folks with laptops to make use of the convenient
switches to turn off their wireless unless they are actively
intending to use it. Great in theory, but in practice, I find they
are more often than not, left on at all times.

I also have known of many smaller to mid sized corporate environments
that have wireless network inside the firewall. Progressive places
that have no assigned desks - pick up an laptop and park yourself
where you like. Companies that were supposedly only wired, but the
CEO put in his own WAP, and hooked it up to a booster tower to make
the signal 10x stronger. In my own office building, we can see 10+
networks, and I'm only aware of one Coffee shop with free wireless in range.

As a practical matter, I'd think many, many corporate environments
have wireless access. If they intended to, or even allow it by
policy, is another matter.
