Almost all current malware attacks are issues of ignorance, not technology.
It's significant, however, that attackers are now focusing on Mac users, an
audience that tends to be quite naive when it comes to malware and that has
been neglected in the past.
Social engineering (which is what this attack is) plays a significant role
in the number of Windows boxes that are trojaned and botted. In fact,
prompting the user to install codecs is an oft-used method of tricking
Windows users to install trojans.
Should this software take hold in the Mac community, it would be noteworthy
for that alone.
