DNSSEC OPERATIONS MANAGER

ICANN has been a leader in the development of internet security protocols for Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) which provides authentication in the root zone of the internet. Additionally, as a public benefit, not-for-profit global organization, ICANN is responsible for the stability, interoperability, and commercial viability of the internet.

We are seeking a DNSSEC Operations Manager to join our team as we move to the next phase in DNSSEC deployment throughout the root zone. This unique position will provide the opportunity to lead strategy and planning, acquisition and deployment, and operational management aspects of ICANN’s DNSSEC role.

Initial responsibilities will include the build out of a world-class operational infrastructure for DNSSEC, working with stakeholders to continue to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations, conduct research, hands-on operational control, and much more.

Leading candidates will have the following qualifications:

• Strong technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards including DNS, IPv6 and preferably DNSSEC and/or PKI.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

• Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development.

• Significant experience working with a globally diverse stakeholder base in a collaborative team-oriented environment.

• Strong problem solving skills and ability to analyze and process highly complex problems and develop solutions.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

• Lead DNSSEC operational planning and projects

• Work with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations.

• Ensure the efficient utilization of resources – including personnel and equipment

• Oversee all reports and documentation related to network and systems operations.

• Develop maintenance schedules for network and systems equipment.

• Conduct system feasibility studies and testing.

• Develop and implement all functional policies and procedures, including those for network architecture, standards, purchasing, and service provision.

Acquisition & Deployment

• Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of DNSSEC systems, including networks, data centers, servers, PCs, operating systems, and associated hardware.

• Analyze existing operations and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the network infrastructure and DNSSEC systems.

• Conduct research and remain current with the latest technologies and solutions in support of procurement efforts.

Operational Management

• Practice asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment.

• Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, department heads regarding pertinent DNSSEC activities.

• Oversee operations-related projects and project portfolio.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Formal Education & Certification

• Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science or information systems (Master’s preferred) and 5 years related work experience.

Knowledge & Experience

• Strong technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Datacenter operations.

• Strong technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including DNS, DNSSEC, IPv6.

• Extensive application support experience.

• Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development.

• Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.

• In-depth knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

• Strong understanding of human resource management principles, practices, and procedures.

• Strong understanding of project management principles.
