http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=21813 if you just want the GPMC with
SP1. The GPMC with SP1 is the latest version of the Group Policy Management
Console and includes updates to address customer-reported bugs. There is an
updated EULA that allows you to install GPMC with SP1 on Windows XP in a
Windows 2000-based Active DirectoryR domain without a Windows Server 2003
license.
If you want the resource kit tools which are free go to www.reskits.com
which redirects into the resource kits for Microsoft. The 2003 kits are free
downloads now which beats having the paper weights that you use the 2000
books for.

Although the tool ships with 2003, it can run against a 2000 domain. I
believe it's available free for download from the Microsoft site, and can be
installed on an XP client to manage your domain. And it is really good,
much better than the 2000 tools.

If you're using Windows Server 2003, try the Group Policy Management
tool. It's an free add-on tool from MS that replaces and augments the
Group Policy tool normally found in ADUC. It includes a Group Policy
Results Wizard that will scan a system and then tell you which GPOs have
been applied.
We been using it to great effect.

Does anyone know of a tool, preferably freeware or shareware, to report
the effective Active Directory settings on a server?
