The biggest problem with the SUS/WUS approach to patch management is
that it assumes that you are both starting with and maintaining a
clean slate in a germ-free stable environment. There are no provisions
for releasing emergency patches (pushing) or baselining systems.
Reporting is not where it should be for an enterprise patch management
solution either. A proper tool should allow the administrator to get
an on-demand real-time patch posture for a non-specific list of
machines without cobbling together disconnected scripts and
half-a-dozen shareware utilities. Yes, you can use SMS, but that is an
enterprise strategy decision that requires significant hardware
commitments and architecture changes to the enterprise. We are making
a grilled cheese - not an SMS "lobster thermador".

Subject: Windows Update Services
Hi,
I'm currently using SUS, but I would like to get some information
about Windows Update Services. I know it's still in the beta version,
but are there any pros/cons on this software?
Any input or experience regarding it will be appreciated.
