Solution:
These issues were fixed across multiple releases of gps. Users are advised to upgrade to version 1.1.0 to address all of these issues.

Debian has released an advisory (DSA 307-1) which contains fixes for these issues. Please see the attached advisory for details on obtaining and applying fixes.
