RSA, the security division of data-storage giant EMC, announced on Thursday that it would acquire Tablus, a maker of security software that identifies, encrypts and manages important corporate data.
The purchase will allow EMC's products to locate sensitive data and protect the information from data breaches and insider espionage. The company's products will be integrated into EMC's Infoscape line of information management solutions, the company said in a statement.
"The hard reality of information security is that you cannot secure what you cannot manage, and you cannot manage what you cannot find," Art Coviello, executive vice president of EMC and president of RSA, said in the statement. "Once completed, this acquisition will significantly expand our ability to help organizations of all sizes truly secure their data - and accelerate our mission to bring information-centric security to life."
The purchase is the latest acquisition in the security industry. In June, Hewlett-Packard announced that the it would buy Web security assessment company SPI Dynamics for an undisclosed sum. The announcement came two weeks after IBM signed an agreement with Watchfire to buy the compliance and security audit firm. In May, Verizon Business announced that the company would acquire managed-security service provider Cybertrust.
EMC did not divulge the financial details of the deal.
