Spyware remote removal 2004-11-30
Maskeri, Chris (Chris_Maskeri PremierInc com)
I have read the many threads on centrally located spyware tools. Are there
any remote removal tools available? If this includes a centrally located
one, that is fine too.

Thanks

Hey everyone,

There has been an increase in "Anyone know which virus this is?" posts
lately. The problem here is that it's almost impossible to name a
particular piece of malware based on a file name. Even with a few more
details it can be difficult to narrow something down with any accuracy.

So

The online description at Pest Patrol states:
* Captured data is stored encrypted, in dated files (ex. '01.20.99.DAT') and can be deleted through System Spy interface.

This is probably what is causing the false positive. I have performed a scan on a system that has been freshly imaged. You will

All,
I was wondering if anyone has some information on a particular piece of
spyware called "System Spy -- Key Logger". It is not detected by either
Ad-aware or Spybot -- it is being identified by Pest Patrol's free online
scanner. I have tried numerous searches to isolate the nature of the

What are NOD32's scalability and large enterprise implementation
considerations? It seems like it has trouble with dealing with systems that
are not on the same LAN...

Can you elaborate on that topic?

Hi erez,
That sounds like something nice to have but in real life, it's too
difficult to implement such strategy... it's something that we want but we
can't have. Zonealarm sounds like a HPS to me which is not feasible cos
there are too much restrictions and our env is too dynamic to have a "clean"

Hi Charles,

It looks like you have not used NOD32 yet. Its heuristics are far from
inaccurate and in over 3 years I've not had a single false positive.
So, it looks like what you've been told and what we've experienced are
two totally different things. Also, remember that there are some
products

Hi Charles,

If you're looking to a spyware/adware tool to block viruses, I think
you're looking the wrong direction. Its kind of like looking for a
driving school to teach you internal combustion engine mechanics.

If you want an AV solution that can detect unknown viruses, then NOD32
is what you

Also an excellent recommendation Charles. I've heard many good things
about Finjan's software and hardware solutions. (They frequent some of
the mailing lists from SF as well. Very responsive to customer
inquiries.)

The only limiting factor may be the price. I'm not sure of Finjan's
current pricing
