another forensic live cd that I like to use is Digital Evidence Forensic Toolkit, based on Kernel 2.6.31 using LXDE as the GUI.

I understood, that there is not "the forensic live CD" and that it is
also common to use different ones on a analysis.
So i will test some of the distributions you guys mentioned to figure
out, which will meet my needs best.

UW Tacoma - not too far from you, but a drive - offers a certificate program in computer forensics that is taught by people who actually do such work. I believe this year has already started, but you might be able to work something out with them.

I once had the same "empty disk" problem and was unable to solve it.

it was also an AVMTECH but different model.

i sent it to attingo.com datarecovery

about a week later i got my data.

it was not cheap tough :/

but the data was worth the money, so it was ok.
