IDS causing troubles 2011-02-01

Hello,

We have the following problem. Now and then, the IDS will cause
disruptions to the network, especially after updates. We have an IBM
(ex ISS) Intrusion Detection System with a few network sensors and
several host sensors. The IDS is not managed by us but we have it
outsourced.

The disruptio

That must have been annoying. Luckily I'm pretty sure we haven't run into an obscure Juniper bug, as the hardware bypass engaged and disengaged correctly according to syslog and our observations. It was more about the effects of hardware bypass on the surrounding network environment.

Thanks

Hi Joel,

Good point, I'm not sure that a duplex or mdix issue was the cause of the downtime in our case however. Reason I say this is that the issue seemed to disappear after half an hour, without any intervention. This wouldn't happen if it was a duplex/MDIX issue. However its certainly the typ

Hi,

I recently saw an outage in a network that had a Juniper IPS device deployed. The outage consisted of tcp sessions timing out for users, ping connectivity was not confirmed. The IPS is deployed in transparent mode and Internal Bypass is enabled on the ingress and egress interface pair that ma

If you wanted to see what the apps on your mobile device are up to,
current instructions on the web involve jail-breaking, setting up
access-points and hubs and what not. It's gotta be lot simpler than
that. This should help those of you that are testing DPI, Application
Identification and IPS to ke

Hello everyone,

Posting this term out there to see I could get a better understanding when I see this term within security tools descriptions. Can any shed some light on this term and what it means:

Enterprise Pattern and Integrated Correlation (EPIC) rules engine

Thanks very much.

I don't normally shill my own stuff, but this article came out today and
it is entirely apropos to the discussion we have been having about IPS
performance testing (although I wasn't thinking 10G when I wrote it, I
admit).
