Luckily I'm pretty sure we haven't run into an obscure Juniper bug, as the hardware bypass engaged and disengaged correctly according to syslog and our observations. It was more about the effects of hardware bypass on the surrounding network environment. Reason I say this is that the issue seemed to disappear after half an hour, without any intervention. This wouldn't happen if it was a duplex/MDIX issue. disruptions to the network, especially after updates. We have an IBM
(ex ISS) Intrusion Detection System with a few network sensors and
several host sensors. The IDS is not managed by us but we have it
outsourced.
