Lycos antispam site taken offline

Lycos Europe appears to have taken down its controversial MakeLoveNotSpam site - temporarily, at least. The site now displays a graphic and the words "STAY TUNED." References to the site have also been removed from the Lycos Europe home page, where it was prominently featured, monitoring firm Netcraft reports.

It was only a matter of time before companies started going after the spammers as well. It is about time we start hitting them in their pockets after all they never respect the unsubscribe request. I had one JO that contacted me from a employment website sending me spam "We buy used SUN equipment". ...

How could they not see this coming ?

They should've set up their router to automatically ignore requests from the ip's they were attempting to take down.

Not that what they were doing was legal anyway ......

It seems to me that Lycos must not have passed this one through their lawyers first. I'm all for doing all we can to fight spammers, but the potential for abuse of this system is great -- for example, what if it were possible to inject the IPs of sites you didn't like into the Lycos system?
