Bush prepares for possible shutdown of GPS network in national crisis

President Bush has ordered plans for temporarily disabling the U.S. network of global positioning satellites during a national crisis to prevent terrorists from using the navigational technology, the White House said Wednesday.

Imagine nanoscale remotely piloted "kill" vehicles, or Nano-RPV's, released offshore, or near the borders, that could use the GPS system to guide them to an area or a specific target. Might this be a reason for shutting down the GPS network? ...

I don't think it will be nanotechnology but something along the lines you are mentioning is probably what they want to avoid.

Of course the problem is that most likely they'll only know that they need to shut down the system once the attack has happened -- at which point it is most likely too lat...
