I'm a school network manager.

To be honest, and no disrespect to the students involved in this, I think they are probably overestimating their knowlege when they say they've got a handle on this. IMHO teenagers often believe that they know far more than they do on a lot of topics, I've seen kids...

Teens need to remember that the parents are responsible for the actions of the child. In that respect you have no right to privacy as long as you live under you parents roof and they are supporting you.

What you do after you move out is your business and also remember your parents have no need t...

Talking about what they feel seems like a good thing to me. I think they made some good points about awareness and the need for parents to take responsibility. I also think you made a few good points as well with leading into the parents being responsible. All can live in harmony with a gentle de...

I have to disagree with that, teenagers need to have some privacy, its like respect.

How do you know that this group of teenagers have not even scratched the surface?

I'm 16 and I know I have a whole lot to learn still, things that can only be learned in a real-life career but I'm positive I'v...

I am a SysAdmin/NetAdmin/Manager and father of two. One 17 and one 10.

I have to agree with the 16 y.o. on this one. Teenagers have a right to privacy. That you support them does not mean that they are property. They are persons and deserving of the respect and rights that gives them.

The jo...

I agree and disagree with what you are saying, yes we are reponsible for our children and yes we want to protec t them, but if you bring up your child to be responsible and to be repectful, then at age 16 as parents we do have to give them some privacy. 99 times out of 100, your teenager will probal...

Yeah, ok. I see my older teens and their friends and they don't have a clue about internet privacy. For the most part, kids are still dumb, thats why they can't drink, vote or hold any public office. They have no real understanding of their experiences and think everyone old "just doesn't understand what we have to go through". same old story with every generation. Go do your homework kids....

One of the teens in question.
First, as a member of the age group thats being discussed, let me humble myself (and the rest of us) to those that know more than we do. Some of us think we're infalliable, others of us don't stop to think about all the dangers online, and some of us aren't even aware of everything that happens behi...

I'd be more inclined to say the title should be "Teenagers CAN be stupid too". Although many of the comments in this discussion were directed at clueless teenagers they can still apply to clueless adults (of which there are no lack) i.e., those who have answered Nigerian email scams etc.. On the ot...

Just by reading these replies the teenagers make a very valid point! Parents and educaters are dumb! They will completely remain so, long as they treat kids as some sort of property and not as respectable human beings. The fact is that WE are the cause of the dangers out there. When we have such...

Due to popular belief not all children are stupid. I agree that many are completely clueless when it comes to security/privacy. 95% would not know what a 'proxy' was or even a firewall. And well talking about router's or NAT would just zap their brain. However there are some very able, in tune child...

I tend to agree with others posters' comments. I attended that CFP panel session panel. One of my takeaways was that teens' basic experiences and understanding of privacy was limited to their relationships with their parents, and perhaps to stalkers.

Beyond this, they really didn't seem to have muc...

The entire article was so removed from reality, it's completely useless. They're talking to a 'panel' of kids who are attending a tech conference. KIDS attending a TECH CONFERENCE. "But I may be overly cynical" thats an understatement. No internet in schools? I'm a student in high school right now and I have to write quite a few papers on stuff that you MUST have the internet to use for research and whatnot.

I am numerically much older than my attitude. I am a father of 3, the youngest is now 19. I am a creator of technology, on many different levels. I'm affraid your knowledge on the human brain is incrorrect. The human brain develops well pasts the age of 20 and to be able to "reason" the front part which is your frontal lobe cannot function without your central cortex. So in closing some adults even past the age of 20 are no m...

It is much better to know that you don't know, than to think you know when you don't.
