Kevin Mitnick, special to SecurityFocus 2000-11-05

I beleave that MS and 'his' hacker had one thing in common, they dont like to reveal their secrets.

Not all hackers like to trade their secrets, the ones that trade source code like teenagers trade baseball cards, are not hackers in the most purist way. In my point of view, they are not hackers at ...

Mitnick has nothing substantial to offer the Information Security community. Because a hacker has been jailed for breaking computer laws, does not mean his opinions on computer security are valid!

As an IT Security Consultant myself, I can say that Mitnick is more knowledgeable than many Consultants and the piece he has written for securityfocus is much better informed than the crap I read in the FT. So please be a little more open...

The first thing that struck me about Mr. Mitnick's article was the prolific use of "possibly", "probably", "maybe", and "might have"...only to have him sum it up by saying only Microsoft and the "hacker" know what really happened. The last thing we (the public, as well as the security community) ne...

Source code? Bah! The source code to Windows or Office can't possibly be all that interesting of a read. If the hacker had managed to put a backdoor in the MS "official" code tree, now that's something.

The real problem is if Microsoft's private keys were compromised......

I agree with UnixGeek. It is a very ironic article coming from Kevin Mitnick, however I see the point of view of Kevin and we will all hopefully see this point of view more in the future....
