Microsoft to reward informants after Sasser conviction

Microsoft plans to split the $250,000 reward for the information leading to the Sasser author between two tipsters, after a German court convicted and sentenced the creator of the Sasser worm and Netsky viruses on Friday.

I am starting to wonder this: I am a minor, if I write a very nasty virus, and then I myself tip to M$ and have local authorities arrest and convict me, do I myself cash on M$ anti-virus rewards program? what if I tell my mates to tip on me?

Never forget that the industry has its part on this one.

While setting free a worm is clearly an act of vandalism, software makers do take it too easy on security. Still. And anti-virus makers keep selling old solutions based (more or less) on databases of known attacks which have to be kept up-t...

The sad thing is this guy is working a job programming and was just convicted with 30 hours service. He should lose his job based on ethical violations and criminal intent even if he was a minor....
