Settlement reached in Cisco flaw dispute

LAS VEGAS -- A researcher who showed off a way to remotely compromise Cisco routers has to turn over all materials and agree not to further disseminate information on the flaws or the technique he used to run code on the popular network hardware.

bah! surely, someone who has found a way to own cisco routers, can send an anonymous email informing them of the flaws - this cat was out to claim his stake in notoriety, why else release this information at a /black hat/ conference?...

He did notifiy Cisco in MArch. and then in May informed them that he was preparing a brief for Black Hat in July. march - July 5 months for Cisco to aknowledge / fix, and do damage controll. Plus this is not his first presentation nor gig sharing vulnerabilities with vendoers and End-users. ...

if he had any brains (other than those required to hack a computer) he'd have leveraged his new-found knowledge to get a gig at Cisco as an internal security advisor, instead of trying to make himself a crusader and ending up in the poor house...

Cisco's behaviour is that of any large corporation: despotic and trampling justice with its feet, illustrating yet again that Justicia isn't that blind if big money is involved. A question on the side: how "democratic" are "democracies"?...

Sysco is sending a message that companies cannot legally protect themselves. Do you think criminals care about Sysco's reverse engineering restrictions? I think not! Only legitimate users are affected by this. I say voice your opinion by not buying Sysco products....
