Sony BMG's copy-protection problems grow

Sony BMG Music Entertainment announced plans on Wednesday to pull from store shelves nearly 2.6 million CDs that include a controversial copy-protection program, offer consumers an opportunity to return the discs, and create a more secure program to help remove the software from people's computers.

I feel that both the RIAA and MPAA are slightly to blame. They used the same media that PC's use. If you make it inaccessible to a PC, then you don't have to worry about copyrights. Remember that whopping laser disc? I realize that CDROM's and DVD's are easier to manage, but shouldn't those resp...

You need to re-check history. Both CDs and DVDs were originally media-only (audio and video/audio respectively). Computer hardware makers then adapted both to hold data as well, and since they were basing the data drives on the original non-data models it was easier to retain the ability to output a...

Ah...I stand corrected. However, the fact still remains that technology they use can be used by a computer. I think all industries need to re-think this....

Think of it, what is Sony's market share in music, I bet its more than 20%...so at least 1 out 5 people who buy music CD's are at risk.

And ALL those people have access to a computer (Home, School, Work, etc), where if they played the CD in it, causes security risk that's presently UN-INSTALLA...
