Researchers led by the head of a Florida anti-spyware firm aim to recreate what caused a Connecticut school's classroom computer to start displaying pornographic pop-ups in October 2004, an incident that recently led to four felony convictions for the substitute teacher involved.

Who cares whether she logged in or not? Prior to Windows 2000 all one had to do was hit Esc to skip past the login prompt. The school should be held accountable for putting it's students and the public (Internet) at risk....

Win98SE had a vulnerability which cached all login passwords in a plain text file.

Besides not being patched and not NAT'ed this pretty much left a pigeon the size of a prize turkey sitting on the Internet broadcasting a beacon to everyone in the world "COME GET ME!".

This is not surprise. USA is a police state.

A lot of prosecutors run for congress.

They need convictions, and they do not care about your explanations. They care about more power.

This is one time I would back heavy punitive penalties against the state. The refusal to allow expert testimony or to delay the trial for discovery is process over reason, a Simon Says courtroom....

I agree with you. Also, did the school have any kind of user agreement forms signed? The teacher who logged in for the substitute is partly to blame as well. What about IT support at the school? If they have an IT person employed at the school, how about negligence charges against him? Porn in ...

Here in the U.S.of A, citizens cannot use this argument. Why then does the law allow the ones entrusted to protect the citizens to use this argument?

Without punitive damages set against the state or Government the law then is an oxymoron or...

This is a puzzelling case on several level with more questions than answers.

The security pro's shouldn't have to work to undo teachers conviction.

Why is the school board not being proseuted?

Surely it is the responsibility for them to ensure a safe physical, spiritual and emotional environmen...

Because this was a substitute. Subs are generally not union members or covered by any sort of union contract. In many cases, they're not even fully certified....

I am a little late catching up on this, but felt it worthwhile to voice my comment. Similar to most of this feedback, I would hope that the true perpetrators of this "crime" be brought to justice. Therein lies the dilemma of assigning accountability for these types of occurrences.

The silly prosecutor run for office and usually win based on their moral reputation of convicting those evil doers.

It's U.S. silly Amercans who buy the rhetoric thEn complain in our easy chair as we watch the news about this sort of idiocy.
