The squirrel mail issue is in a plugin, and that should be pointed out. Squirrel mail by itself is fairly secure. But like most plugins, the introduce new complexity and issues the original authors didn't intend....

the article states that the linux vuln was "found to be already public" while actually it was clearly stated on their site that it was a 0day exploit for a known vulnerability....

I'm in the business of responsible disclosure, I also understand that discovering exploits and vulnerabilities is time and time is worth money.
