Federal agencies failed to meet a Friday deadline to complete a move to standardized desktop configurations designed to reduce management costs and improve the overall computer security of federal systems.

Don't you just love the assumption that of course these systems are running Windows? What does it mean to apply these settings to Linux? MacOS? Solaris? ...

The corollary to "not every desktop runs windows" is "not every windows system is a desktop". We'll see how they handle those systems running windows but not on the desktop (or even the datacenter) - how about those in the medical center?...
