What past practice would that be - breaking Netscape's monopoly in the browser? In a very short time, Microsoft has built a best-in-class malware team and their product has as good a track record as any of the established 'security' vendors, if not a bit better. Microsoft has proven with it's past takeovers of other services that ANYTHING they touch becomes a gateway for their own malware, without any hope of the user stemming the flow without removing the programs...and even they you need to be a fairly decent programmer to figure out how to remove the bug...
