U.S. defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld this week directed the armed service to strip military Web sites of information that could benefit adversaries, citing a terrorist training manual and a year-long review of the Department of Defense's 700-gigabyte Web presence.

No, I ain't a retired NSA person, and I doubt you are a retired USAF staff, anybody can put that in the From: line, I'd rather believe you are part of the TIA program convincing "us" that upright former USAF members are wholeheartly standing behind a policy of progressively refusing "us" our rights ...

I agree entirely. The mountains of Unclassified information available on the Internet can paint a picture that would otherwise be Classified and, therefore, place our troops and country at higher risk. Things such as regulations, policies, technical manuals, etc. can be used to estimate what our f...

Rumsfeld is right. The military has NO business putting out public web sites. cept for MAYBE recruit. What we use, where people are stationed, where bases are located... should be clasified. Im not saying that this will prevent people from finding the information, but do we have to HELP them s...

Wrong. The government and the military both work for the United States. They do not work for Don Rumsfeld. We have a right to know where they are deployed (in a strategic sense, I agree that individual tactical level ops information should not be public AT ALL)....

I certainly agree with Rumsfeld! No one can afford to allow any 'sensitive' information go loose in the hands of the enemy, remember the famous quote, once said by Rumsfeld some time ago to the Press corps, "Loose lips sink ships".

Once again, the U.S. government addresses matters of web security too little, too late. The chances of Rumsfeld effectively removing "useful" information from the 'Net are slim and none. Google caches thousands of web pages, does Rumsfeld plan on purging Google's cache. Does he plan on trying to ...

Yet we have some who provide MORE details about what our ENEMY "should" look for by expressing their criticisms in DETAIL! ...

Reminds me of a map a coworker had on his wall, where I used to work. It was a rare pre-WWII railroad map that showed the major passenger routes and major Army bases. It was produced to assist people in figuring out how best to visit relatives in the service. It was rare because when the U.S. ent...

I used to gripe to anyone that would listen (from 1996 when listings started till I left in 2000) that there was way too much information on web sites.
