All VoIP applications should be encrypted by default. I understand it will need more cpu power but you could run it from your computer and microphone just fine.

Well gee that's great but.....

The moment everybody starts implementing encryption over their voice communications, the FBI and friends are going to make the argument that only people with something to hide (i.e. criminals) need use encryption. One court order later and you're going to be handing...

Its laughable that the US and UK governments are talking about liberation, freedom from tyranny when in its own domestic situations it is reducing the populous to scared, frightened and MONITORED, citizens....

Could you generate a different key pair and shred the old one on a regular(say, daily) basis, making it impossible to give up the key to old conversations and so giving you a way out? This would also prevent your private key from being read from a seized computer....

What Justice Brandeis called "the right to be left alone" is fundamentally opposed to the governments interest in surveilance, and was *meant* to be in fundamental opposition to the government's interest.
