From the sound of it, Spike sounds like a variation of the Urine box and or Blotto box files that were in heavy circulation in the mid to late 80s, many of them started out as a joke (eg, the blotto box was a cleverly hyped but none-the-less wholly fictional device that could supposedly kill a phone...

I have to disagree that the electric grid is safe from an internet attack...

At least it should be... and would be.... if systems were properly designed

and structured so that there is no link or path between the www and

internal process control systems...

Well, a completely integrated system is the most efficient. It allows control on the road for electricians to diagnose problems offsite. It's neccesary.
