If the intent of the Deceptive Duo was to secure "America's" infrastructure, then why didn't they just offer their services to corporations, non-profits and government agencies for free?

I think a focused vulnerability assessment would have been more effective than breaking into a web server. Se...

It is obvious you do not know what you are talking about,. Defacement of a government website is a major security flaw? All that was broke into was some old box running a web sever with the website on it. This box has nothing to do with the government servers and will never be hooked into a governme...

Most of their sites are not connected to government networks. They also said that they found confidential information. The information that t...

The major problem I see here, is that a "youngster" embaressed a few oldtimers. He also did what was necessary to force our government into taking a better look at flaws in their systems. Were if NOT for lazy administrators, he never would have been able to hack into a dod computer using a default p...

They should never hire these kiddiots. They used default passwords and canned exploits, very little knowledge and no skill there. In fact these kiddiots didn't even show us that are government computers are insecure. Some computers have to be connected to the net and others are suppose to be on...

I would have to agree with you and would like to add a couple things.

The "duo" didn't do this for the United States, they did it for themselves. They basically hid their actions under so called "patriotism", when in fact they're just looking for fame and glory, just like every other script kidd...

If he broke into your house and destroyed some property, you would be asking for him to be arrested. It won't matter if he was "just trying to improve your security"....

Big favor how? I doubt you have ever done computer forensics before on a compromised machine. For all the time spent trying to make sure dolts like Lyttle didn't include root-kits on the rest of the compute...

Ok,but then you could also go after the ones that installed you the security alarms(if any), as they were properly asked to do.

And if they did it wrong, poorly, or nothing at all, then they would receive the same treatment-

I suppose some rather broad parallel could be drawn between them and say MLK or Gandhi - breaking the law to draw attention to their cause (albeit a little less morally just).

It is suspicious though that these two seem to find their moral outrage best expressed in a form that is sometimes seen a...

Mr. Lyttle knew exactly what he was doing and knew he was breaking the law. His lawyer can spout all that trival of he was doing it for his country. So now govt. IT guys can spend their time chasing The Dumb Duo instead of spending time doing what these lame heads want. Lyttle should try working ...

I think what they have done can be reprimended by just a slap on the hand. It is true that they have broken the law, but they did do a favor by helping the administrator fix the holes as they told them how they did it. Now if it was a real terrorist that had done that, he would have copied all the i...

What Lyttle did was against the law and he knew it. He needs to be taught something here. All this was an exuse to hack. As far as a terrorist copying vital info, those servers don't carry any. There are a few servers that are accessible from the net that do, but if you think that the also store pub...

Personally I think the Goverment needs to crack down on all hackers. Start giving these idiots sentances ranging from 10 to 20 years, and you will see a lot less hackers out there.

Again, not condoning hacking or cracking of any sort (ethical or not), HOWEVER let's say the penal system sentenced hackers to 10-20 years. So the amount of hacking in the US drops significantly and now there really is no reason to keep on top of securityproblems is there. Why spend time and resou...
