The patch removes the ability to save EXE files? What about ZIP files, which can embed an EXE without being executable themselves? What about DOC files, which are still popular as attachments and are often legitimate files, but may be infected with a macro virus?

I couldn't agree more,

A simple pop-up warning users about the risk of viruses or

the _option_ of blocking files with hazardous extensions.

Yet again, in a company where users aren't supposed to be accepting any .exe/.vbs/etc anyway, this is a good temp. solution, which is all you can expect ...

Obviously you folks are not experiencing the kinds of users in your organizations that I am. This is a good fix for users that have a low level of sophistication and actually expect their systems to protect them....

I have heard that once this patch is installed, there is no way to disable/remove it (without re-installing outlook!)...
