Use 'defense in depth':

- Patch your OS and apps.

- Check firewall rulesets.

- Harden the OS on your servers.

- Implement intrusion detection systems.

- Review your data architecture, and look for vulnerable information (credit card numbers, customer information, etc.)

IMO, a network's security stance should be no different when compromise attempts are expected.

With the possible exception of making sure that the appropriate staff members are on call, July 6th should be just another day for your network....
