New charges in Lowe's wi-fi hacks

Federal officials this week accused a third Michigan man of conspiring to steal credit card numbers from the Lowe's chain of home improvement stores by taking advantage of an unsecured wi-fi network at store in suburban Detroit.

I have been to a Lowe's store in Virginia that had a dirty little wood shack in the back of the lumber area with the door completely unsecured. Not to mention the fact that LOWES is wilfully leaving customers information within easy grasp by not using at least some of the built in security available in 802.11b

Lowes should be fined for such a lax attitude towards data security....

A Company like Lowes should take responsibility in protecting their customer's credit information. If the company can't afford the expertise to secure their wireless technology then they should stick with the old card sliders with carbon copies.
