'Mydoom' computer virus brings down SCO Group's Web site

A computer virus that targeted a small Utah software company performed as its perpetrators promised on Sunday, bringing down The SCO Group's Web site two days before a similar virus was programmed to attack Microsoft Corp.

Since the first evidence of the virus the following site has been diggining into the origin "story" and finding that most press are saying that LINUX users are at fault (because SCO is saying so)... and, in fact, spammers and/or criminals may be the ones who are behind it all.

Thanks to SCO.COM who removed its records from DNS, so there were no catastrophic traffic increase ......

Sat. I got all kinds of inbound traffic. when i started traceing the ip#s it kept comming up with 50 or more hops including conections from my own pc all of the root ip's were the same, odd...

Microsoft site not likely to have problems 2004-02-04

Unlike SCO, MS use Akamai for the content delivery of their website. Their usage of the Akamai network will go up but their site should not experience any outage. Did the author not know this?...

SCO beat the virus to the punch. 2004-02-05

SCO had plenty of time to prepare themselves. Microsoft made it. I would think that since Microsoft is funding SCO, they could probably offer some insight as to what they could do to mitigate the attack. But SCO took the site down themselves and played the pity card....
