Alleged WebTV 911 hacker charged with cyberterrorism
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2004-02-26

Interesting because of the flimsiness of the application of the law here. The man was cited as a "cyberterrorist" because he had some victim's systems dial 911. It wasn't even a worm, but a script he sent only to some targetted individuals he disliked.

Yet, if he had left a bloody chicken's head...

If this guy were a bit smarter he would known prank calling 9-1-1 is a crime. If he were just a bit smarter he would have made their boxes dial 1-900-sex-numbers. That would have cost them money ($2.99 a minute). I dont believe that could have been translated into cyber terrorism. The most he would ...

I agree with Mr. Copley - overreacting to every incident by prosecuting to ridiculous extents not only shows the amount of panic in the gov't but also discredits the law. America's relation with the legal system already notorious for its abuse ( I'll sue you for giving me hot coffee ), lets not add ...

This is what they consider cyberterrorism? Granted, its not one of the brightest things to do, but cyberterrorism? I wonder how much worse it would have been for this guy if he would have given some wedgies and wet willies as well.

Face the new reality. You have no rights. The government just has to utter the word terrorism and you are, effectively, no longer a citizen of the US.

Sure September 11th was bad. What's more of a surprise is that it never happened until now and how the people of the US just sit back and watch a...

Ya know...if they taught accurate history in public schools these days, then maybe there would be more people privy to the fact that history repeats itself, and is doing so right now.

In 1941, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. It has been proven, well documented, and even aired on public television, th...

Unfortunately with things like 911 calls, every time an officer responds to a call, there's potentially another call that they aren't responding to. In my opinion, on this basis it was a threat to public health and safety. I think we were lucky that it was just 21 users, and not 2100 users, in which...

The 911 system is very important for the safety of the citizens of the USA. Considering that people reporting a terrorist incident - the release of chemical or biological agents, or other similar event would need to use 911 to report it, the offense is certainly a serious one. If the targets of the ...

The world is getting worse and worse these days. I agree with you folks... the so called "Patriot Act" is in no way Patriotic and should never have been passed.
