Would-be whistleblower indicted for keyboard tap

A former claims adjuster for a U.S. insurance company is the first to be charged under federal wiretap law for the covert use of a hardware keystroke logger, after he was caught using the device while secretly helping consumer attorneys gather information to use against his own company.

First off, claims that he was trying to build a legal case should be discounted. There's no reason to believe it, and nothing would prevent anyone doing anything illegial from claiming that they were doing "the right thing".

I don't know how that makes one bit of sense. Simply because the FBI uses something doesn't mean that anybody can use the same thing without regard for the law.

It seems like he was over zealous in pursuing this matter. A reluctant snitch would have requested some sort of written CYA from the Dept. of Insurance. in 1988 i was working in an company with an IBM AS400 System. The keyboards were as big as an C64 and best of all: with integrated macro recorder...

I got every password because you could start the recorder before login...

That would be an interesting case...but they didnt catch me ;-))...
