The factory floor of a modern paper manufacturing plant is a ballet of heavy machinery and razor-sharp blades, pressing, dying, rolling, unrolling and cutting dead tree pulp by the ton. To James Cupps, it's something else, too: a target rich environment for cyber attacks.

Good article, I was wondering when somebody will finally realise this serious security threat. Since several years I encountered several fully computerized door lock and floor control systems, accessible via ethernet.

Just good will nobody got locked up but seriously, this is an issue especially ...

I worry about drug companies who produce prescriptions for the world. but I am sure they have proper mechnisms for checking batches of prescription drugs produced via automation if in fact they use these types of systems right? of course, it would be very costly otherwise. I certianlly hope medicin...

I do not believe that it is not the responsibility of the software vendor to provide improved security. The proper design of secure networks can drastically reduce unauthorized access to these control systems. The problem is that rarely are control specialists (the people building these PLC networks...
