This information seems to justify all of EPIC's concerns and then some. It proves that the FBI lied when it said its software was the equivalent of a pen register; that's only true in a specific mode of operation.

I don't object to the FBI having a do-it-all surveillance tool, provided we can be ...

I think Ron might be close on this one. Despite Interdepartmental fun and games, there is solid proof that watered down versions of NSA-implemented solutions have filtered down to the FBI and other agencys, too numerous to name. Carnivore is no doubt a scaled down version of an NSA software solution...

Carnivore is for all intents and purposes a filter with an activity log; the amount that's logged varies with the settings...

There is no etical reason for the government to keep the infomation from the American public. the only problem is that there are those individuals (I don't mean anyone on this board) who would love nothing more than to see America crash down into "Third World Status" It's a sucky way to put it and I...

Don't kid yourself. There are obvious reasons they don't want the "general public" to know everything. While National Security may certainly be one of those, I opine it's simply Big Brother getting that much closer to sleeping in your bed. ...
