I can't help but wonder, did the people who called to harass him use their real phone number, or spoof their caller id?

Well, there's nothing to prevent people from being harassing and threatening in general, so I don't think you can indemnify the service if its used that way. It would be like banning knives from kitchens on the grounds that a chef might flip out and stab people; the service has a legitimate use, an...

It's much easier to stand in your doorway with a truck behind you that says "Verizon" and a nametag that says "Verizon" and fool somebody into letting you into their house and mess with their lines.

Can someone tell me if this is illegal? The phone company says it IS illegal. Just by coincidence, I got a call from my "13 year old son" as I was frantically searching for him. Turns out it was someone that I did not want to talk to at the moment, and I was very shaken. (I did find my missing so...

Because the telcos give the ability and option to change the caller-id at will. If they had a concern about liabilities they wouldn't let anybody and their grandmother have free access to this type of system; they'd manage it themselves, changing it to only specific names and numbers per outgoing li...

You can't spoof to 911 services or anything, and people need to realize this. The reason being is that they actually get your billing telephone number, known as ANI, and not just your CallerID/CPN. And if your calling from a cell phone they may be getting your pseudeo-ANI from the cell tower your on...

No. Whatever carrier this site is using to complete their calls, has (if they provide 911 service) their own E911 trunks and the call technically should go out on those trunks, so it wouldn't be hard for the PSAP to determine this 911 call is coming from "the call spoofing company"....

We looked at both and Camophone is over 50% less cost. We use Camophone because it works and is less expensive. Both cater to any body that signs up (Telespoof wants $20 sign up fee, Camophone wants $5 with NO start up fee). Since our clients do not see the service, we do not care which "looks" m...

So what everyone is saying is caller ID is worthless and a waste of money, since you can't depend on it being accurate. The phone companies should be required to notify you of this before subscribing to the service.

It's pretty much impossible to fix. The reason is that anyone who has a trunk line, e.g. a T1 PRI, has, and it should be noted, has always had, the ability to set their caller id to whatever they want. Better yet, they have also always had the ability to read caller id even from those who have blo...

I understand the current security issues with Caller-ID, and I feel camophone.com isn't doing anything wrong by offering this service. If it wasn't them it would be someone else, and they're actually offering a benefit by letting people know there's an issue that needs to be dealt with.

If you have the phone number that is calling you, I would contact your local Telco's fraud department after you file a Police report. Indeed 30 calls from the same number is Illegal and harassment. More than likely, these individuals are using one of three consumer versions of these services, so if...
