I understand Blizzard's position, but the software they install ha scapabilities that are to far-reaching to be comfortable with. What if "Joe Hacker" figures out a way to tap into the Warden, view the data, or control it? The possibilities for misuse and identity theft are limitless. Sorry, I think...

As someone who spends a fair chunk of my free time playing a MMORPG (DAoC, not WoW) I'd like to say "Go Blizzard" for doing what needs to be done to stop people from cheating. As long as the Warden isn't doing anything except look for game hacking software this is a good thing.

Of course the dev...

Aside from the fact that it is in the TOS, this program is part of the game. Consider it free anti-virus. If the author of this article got banned by Blizzard for using hacks, screw him. I am glad. I'd also like to add he is a no skills loser for using hacks in the first place. ...

It is nothing but foolish banter to trash talk ppl for their opinions. Personally if that's the only thing that it does is monitor for exploits, i'm fine with it. However, the moment it's changed to do something any else. Then blizzard should be sued and their products banned. But if that's it... w...

I'm running some gameservers for MMORPG by myself, and I can fairly tell you - if the developer is so unskilled to close the cheat ability on server side - send him away with his project. For example - beginning my Ultima Online free server in 1999, I understood that there's ALOT of cheats... An I g...

Does this mean that anti-virus is spyware? They look into other processes that are running, and even contents of files.

Wait... The governer must be spyware too! It taps into the information flow of another process - The warden!

Hold up! I suppose that would make the Windows Genuine Advantage...

I believe what it really comes down to here is trust. You trust other progams to hook into your memory and watch other processes. You trust other programs to venture out to the internet to pull updates from some nameless IP. Do you trust Blizzard? You bought their game. You could concieveably r...

I understand that if it is not illegal it is not necessarily moral, however if the user consents then what exactly is the problem?

The cheating that is rampent in online gaming of all types is just down right annoying and in fact I have up on online gaming for that reason alone.

I have no pr...

Blizzard's product is a game experience that can be compromised by cheaters. They are protecting their product the same way other vendors protect theirs, and disclosed they may do this.

Complete non-issue. Maybe this guy should not surf porn while playing WoW if it makes him uncomfortable....

I don't loose sleep playing online games, but I have played against obvious cheaters and when Blizzard introduced their anti-cheating features AND explicit statement in their EULA I was more than happy to agree. Now if their process stayed resident in memory outside of using an online Blizzard appl...

So let me see if I get this right, Some people are concerned about Blizzard checking to see if a WOW user is using some sort of cheat to play their game? What is the concern? That Blizzard may use this same program to gather some personal information about the WOW user that is not authorized by the...

I think the main concern here was that someone who is NOT associated with Blizzard may take Warden and twist it to their own desires. Possible I suppose, but with other options available it seems not to be very likely....

this is a non-issue. blizzard isnt "spying" or collecting info, they are checking for cheat programs related to their software. This is so not a big deal as programs check all the time for the presence of other apps (haven't you ever been told during an install to close a specific app before conti...

Its all about consent. You define spyware mostly by the lack of enleightened consent. This is not the case here, the information was availiable on what this software was going to do and most people not only welcomed the Warden but cheered!

This comes from both a cissp and wow player.

If you don't want Blizzard to know where you bank, or that you like goatporn, CLOSE THE F***ING WINDOW BEFORE YOU LAUNCH THE GAME.

The program's only active while the game's running. It's not a TSR. Blizzard wants to know what you have running in the background while you're playing, and if it's...

Stupid. It scans memory for small strings of bytes that match known cheat programs. It doesn't find new ones this way. It doesn't care about anything that isn't on its list. It doesn't scan your drives. It doesn't care that you're using a pirated commercial MP3 player with pirated MP3s in the s...

I think that anyone, even Greg, should be ashamed for thinking there is a problem with this now. If it were a problem, why doesn't anyone in the Diablo II community point it out. They all know, so if you're just learning about this, you don't know if there is an issue. As an active D2 fan for many y...
