What he did he should be punished for.....My question is, where were the parents???? Did they not meet the guy? Did she just go out without her parents knowing? Myspace does need to change the way things are done on the site, but they cannot be held accountable for what happens when two people dec...

The parents weren't around, until it comes time to sue for $30 mil. They are just looking for money. How do you put a price on your daughter being raped? These people make me sick....

What is sad is that everyone of you could not even properly spell and yet referred to the girl and daughter as morons. This leads me to believe that all of you are nothing but a bunch of kids who do not have kids yourself.

Number one; no parent knows where their 14 year old daughter is at every mi...

Parents are suppose to act caring for their own children not looking for how much they going to out of this. The predator should be tooken away to jail and the parent should be watching what their own children are doing on their computers. Especially young females. Guys think they could get with any...

I agree completely, Parents need to instruct their children on the dangers of giving out personal information as well as supervise and know when they are going to meet an unknown person. It's a shame is myspace has to pay for any damages that the parents created. ...

I am no fan of myspace to say the least, I report inappropriate content frequently, but myspace could care less, even when I reported a 12 yr old completely naked, 3 months later after my report, she was still on., anyhooo. absolutely not, myspace should not be held accountable, for the love of what...

Although I don't give Myspace a free pass on this issue, how is it their fault that parents allow a 14 year old to go out on a date with a 19 year old? Where is the personal responsibility here? This seems to be an example of the victim mentality that so permeates our society these days....

I dont blame myspace one bit, she knowing went on a date with the guy, she might not of known his age, so he lied about that on myspace, that went against his TOS therefore myspace shouldn't be punished, myspace asks you to verify that its all true when you sign up, and by accepting the terms, you l...

MySpace and the rest of the internet has become a part of peoples lives. Accept it. However, meeting people online is a dangerous practice, moreso for minors. Parents should be more careful about the education of their kids and more carefully monitor where they go. The assaulter should absoultel...

this is a personal responsibility issue... myspace does not give out any personal information, the only way that he got her phone number is because she gave it to him... myspace can't control that...

Admittedly not a parent
Without any intention of minimizing what the girl may have gone through on her "date," does the root of this have anything to do with MySpace? What about personals ads in the newspaper or local social publication?

When I first started dating, the girl's parents always had to meet me before I was...

Your absolutely right! But here in the good ole USA parents seem to be lacking and teaching personal responsibility. So sadly it's no surprise that they find no fault in what they did but rather rush to sue someone....

I'm starting to get sick of all of the people out there that get all mad cause there son/daughter gets stocked. It has nothing to do with Myspace at all. The only way someone can gain info from that page if you put it there. Or you tell someone everything about you that including your phone number a...

So the lawyer wants MySpace to verify peoples age? What I'd like to know is, how? There's two rather large factors stopping this from being possible.

Factor 1:

They can't exactly plug themselves into the social security database for verification, there'd be one HELL of an outcry in regards to ...

Wonder if the mother will also sue the car dealership who sold the 19 guy a car which enabled him to pick her up and take her on dates. Also hopefully she will file a lawsuit against any establishment they two went to which allowed them to hang out there. Maybe she will also sue herself for being ...

I had almost the same thought as I was reading the article. The mother could just as easily have sued the phone company for failing to block calls between the girl and her assailant. I mean, shouldn't they have known that this guy was up to no good? The mother seems to think MySpace should have know...

It takes a community.... *rolls eyes*

The sad part is these frivolous lawsuits win (sometimes anyways) and we end up with policies that hamper legitimate efforts to protect a few morons, (or in this case morons offspring [which probobly still fall in the moron catagory]). The "I didn't know" argu...

you know, its funny...

you have to have a license to drive a car,

you have to have a license to own a dog,

but any moron can have a child....

For the sake of discussion I tried to think about this from the girl's perspective.

MySpace provides a social network that is intended to introduce people with similar interests and facilitate that communication. The suit alleges that MySpace's security controls are ineffective.

Everyone seem...

I'll only answer to the one question as I am not a myspace user or fully aware of the case, but 'do myspace expect a 14yr old to read T&C" of course not that is why they have an age limit in place. If you don't read the instructions u can't complain when something doesn't work!...
