I have to disagree with this. Instead of promoting another system, now with similiar architecture, end-users need to gain some education. I'm sure that this is not uncommon for IT Professionals, but I've never had a trojan or virus on any of my home computers (Michelangelo and some very early ones e...

Sophos makes a pretty decent product. That said, recommending switching to a Mac simply because it presently has a smaller marketshare is not the greatest advice to give. May as well simply say switch to Linux, or BSD for that matter. Reality of it is that home users simply need to educate themselve...

Market Share?? Not. 2006-07-06

I didn't download the PDF but I didn't find the words "Market Share" anywhere in the linked article. Market share = virus share is a FUD reason that Microsoft has pumped out into the media and many of you guys have eaten it up. I don't believe that market share is a significant factor in the malware...

In my humble opinion the platform is not the main issue, user behaviour is a lot higher on the list. When remembering the story of Troy right, the people there let in what they believed was a horse instead of a team of warriors. In the same way trojans hide in what seem to be harmless tools, utiliti...

There is a valid point to what sophos recommends, even a Microsoft offical admitted recovery virus/malware was becoming impossible he recommended wiping the harddrive and reformatting.

Anyone can have a look at the eweek article:

That paper regarding home users buy mac's just for security purpose alone is probably the most ignorant thing a consumer can do for themselves. One, mac's always tend to cost more, two, if everyone bought macs, then security will be focused on them, three, everyone would have to get compatible softw...

Contrary to what the above comments indicate, OS market share has very little do do with why Microsoft systems are so vulnerable to malware. The article doesn't even mention OS market share as it shouldn't....

My two neighbors are downloading from 50 to 90 megs of various kernel "fixes" every month for their Macs. Why would Sophos think that that these continual "fixes" are any better? Ten to one they're to stop vatious attacks on the Mac op system. One guy cries all the time about his Hughs Net "Fair ...

First, the Architecture is irrelevant, x86, PPC, Sparc, 32bit, 64bit, etc. You consider an Architecture based on the requirements of your computational needs ie: engineering, scientifice, GIS, military, Finance, Office work, Gaming, etc.

At issue, is the Operating System (called an OS Platform) ...

Apple Anxiety
Hello from a Mac business environment. I agree that our Apples are vunerable to malicious codes, etc., but for the time being it has been very nice to not wake up and find a new virus or trojan has attacked our machines. I thank my lucky stars that the hacks have been busy messing up computers on Wi...
