Would it be too much to ask for the details of the originator of the idea, such as the poster's name and name of the mailing list? Postings on lists are not some vast source of ideas to be appropriated by others, they should be properly credited, like any other source....

A direct link to the post was placed in the second sentence of the original story. The name of the mailing list, DailyDave, was also explicitly stated later in the story.

Typically, posters to mailing lists are not named unless permission is first granted.

Has anyone considered the fact that a lot of instant messaging software allows you to customize sign on/sign off sounds?

I don't have Vista on any of my machines, so I can't test it, but if someone left their IM software running then that would eliminate the need for someone to actually open a UR...

This isn't a hole in Vista.. any speech recognition software would suffer from the same exploit. It's a vulnerability of speech recognition technology as a whole, surely.
