Tor is very nice but AFAIK it encrypts the traffic from their first router to the next and this means that traffic leaving your machine will first reach the ISP router and then be forwarded to the next router till it reaches the first onion router.So the ISP will still be able to sniff/monitor your...

Actualy when traffic is encrypted, it is encrypted on the source and decrypted on the target system. Therefore, if you are using tor, the traffice outgoing is encrypted on your box and decrypted on the tor end and vise versa.

Wait a minute, isn't this already SOP for an ISP? Presumably, name/address are kept for billing purposes. DHCP/BootP/Radius etc logs are kept for troubleshooting, no? So what does this bill effectively change? The retention period for such data?

Ya, but, we truncate our accounting tables after
the data has been imported for billing, and who
is charging dsl by the megabyte, or by the minute...
to actually keep any of this data for longer than
6 months would be a big burden on any mid size to small ISP
