5 months... and then they say "The impact on Microsoft was enormous, Braverman stated in the paper."

If the impact was so enormous why did it take 5 months to release removal tool...?

I may be wrong, but wasn't there already an available patch for the vulnerability that Blaster exploited before Blaster was released? People should have been patched before Blaster was released. ...

Great- MS officially notes the scale of this thing. And what's changed since then? Not a whole lot, there are new exploits based on this code appearing almost daily. We have Microsoft to thank for the current state of worms, trojans and malware. Will Vista be any different? Probably not...

If people had applied patches that Microsoft had issued well in advance then it wouldn't have been an issue. Blaster wasn't zero day, it used a known and patched exploit. The issue here is peoples reluctance to patch systems, Microsoft had already solved the problem before it happened....

Most of whom are reluctant to patch because they are /were using an illegal copy and fear they would have the police at their door should they use the MS update site ;)...
