I think the reason why certification is getting more attention then a "real" university diploma is because most people in Network/Security administration or any other infosec job comes from a different educationnal background. For instance, most poeple that I have meet online who actually...

I have met too many degreed individuals that didn't know squat about networks or security.

This is a knowledge-based trade and it requires specialist skills. If you know your stuff, you deserve the job. SANS stresses real world skill, not stale university computer theor...
